Sunny Autumn Garden-based-knitting

Its Mid-October in a usually chilly Warwickshire and I’m sitting in the garden, happily knitting away…the only cardigan in sight is the one I’m currently working on!  It’s a glorious 19 degrees and the sun is out to say hello!

I thought I’d quickly put down my work to share my progress on my “Stripes Gone Crazy” cardigan.

As those of you who have read some of my other posts will know, I’m usually a very fickle knitter.  I LOVE having multiple projects on the go and switching between them.  On this project though, I have been fairly monogamous!  I did have a little break last week to do something simple but after that night, I was right back to this cardigan!

When I picked it up a couple of weeks ago, I’d finished the very complicated shoulder section and was ready to move onto the less complicated upper back.  It didn’t look much like a cardigan as you can see!!

When I last gave you an update, I’d completed most of the upper back and was about to start with the stripes.  Still not much of a cardigan!!

So…today I’ve been sat enjoying the sun in the garden and I’m really pleased with how far I’ve now got!  I’m just starting the next “crazy stripe”.

If you’ve not seen this cardigan (over 700 people have made it so not entirely unique!) the stripes go “crazy” using German short-rows to add extra rows at one end to make the stripes wider at one end.

You can see that best from the back view.  Sorry for the not brilliant pictures, I’m in the garden, so this is “live baby”! haha!

From the front, you’ll see that means that the stripes at one end are smaller than the others!

Unfortunately there are quite a lot of ends to weave in! Made worse by the fact that I decided that I didn’t want the stripes to continue on the sleeves like the pattern intends.  I just CAN’T STOP breaking the rules! gah!

Oh well back to it, just wanted to share a quick update, only about 30 minutes before the sun disappears behind the house and I have to go inside to do something boring and grown-up like clean the bathroom *sigh*

Hope you’re all enjoying your weekends! 🙂

Has anyone else out there tried this cardigan? I’d love to see it if you have / part have like me! 🙂

  1. Oh! What a lot of ends! I carried the yarn down the side since its only 4 rows each time. Its looking fab though!
My crazy stripes sleeves are coming along well now. I’m down to the elbow on the first one.
