Mexican Sun Mandala Free Crochet Pattern

What do you do when you have left-over yarn?  Make a mandala!  This could be used as a coaster or just to look pretty on your desk!

To make this Mandala I used a 3.5mm hook and Scheepjes Catona yarn in colours red, green, purple and orange.  You will only need a small amount of each skein, perfect for using up scraps of yarn!

You can find the PDF of this pattern here.

Some of the rows require working into a row one or two below the one you are working on.  That makes it a bit hard to describe so if you’re struggling, I’ve also put some photo instructions against some of the harder to describe rows below!

UK Crochet Terms Used

  • Chain (ch)
  • Double Crochet (dc)
  • Double Treble Crochet (dtr)
  • Half Treble Crochet (htc)
  • Treble Crochet (tr)
  • Slip Stitch (ss)
  • Repeat instructions between * * as directed

Notes: Please read all of the instructions through before you start.

Join each new colour in the top of the first stitch of the last round (use a stitch marker to help)

At the end of each round, join with a sl st into top of first stitch and pull through to cast-off.

Sl st counts as a stitch throughout

That’s it! 🙂 you’re done except to weave in the ends.  Make sure you do this securely!

I tried it out as a coaster…. not with tea but with Aperol Spritz. I think it works well! 😊

Enjoy!
