Last Dance in the Sun

Hello friends!

The weather in England was glorious this weekend! It also (rather surprisingly!) coincided with a bank-holiday. Something that almost NEVER happens.

Consequently I’ve been spending much time getting my cro-yo on in the garden! Well it’d be rude not to right!?

I’ve been working hard to complete my Last Dance on the Beach blanket. In this post in April I reported that:

  • There are 56 squares required in total to make the blanket.
  • At that point, I had completed 29 of them and I have 27 still to go!
  • I started this in February 2017 and so at my current rate of progress is 2 per month on average

That was based on me doing an extra row of blanket squares (8 extra squares), something I’ve subsequently decided not to do. That means my revised stats are:

  • There are 48 squares required in total to make the blanket.
  • I have completed 41 of them and I now only have 7 to go!
  • I started this in February 2017 and I’m going to finish it by the end of June 2018 at the latest!

To inspire me to get finished, I’ve started joining the squares I can. Once I have a row where all the square types I need are completed, I’m joining them on!

The odd glass of Aperol Spritz is helping the joining operation massively. Its a tedious thing to do. You join into the two “inside” loops.

So far, I’ve joined 3 of the 6 rows that make up the blanket. I’ve not joined the “vertical” yet as I have to wait until all 6 rows are joined horizontally. i’m quite pleased with how its looking so far!

I recently posted a tutorial about how to crochet Tunisian Simple Stitch.

I’m using it to replace one of the squares in the original pattern. I’m really pleased with how it looks, I think it goes quite nicely! 🙂

I’m currently beavering away getting the squares for row 4 finished. I’ve done most of them, but I was finding this square quite mesmerising on Monday afternoon in the sun!

…..zzzzzz……

I’ll post another update when I’m onto the border!!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and if it was sunny where you are, you managed to get out and enjoy it! 🙂

  1. Hi Jo! I think you need to change the name of this lovely Afghan from Last Dance on the Beach to Last Dance in the Garden! It is turning out so pretty! Your Tunisian block addition was a great idea as well:). Happy crocheting, and keep enjoying that sunshine!😊❤️

  2. Looks lovely! I know what you mean about joining the squares, though. That was certainly the most tedious part of my Babette blanket (crocheted Granny Squares of different sizes).
