Meet Freddie, he’s a field mouse, but the cute kind, not the “sneak into your kitchen and eat all your food kind”….oh…he tells me that he is the “sneak into your kitchen and eat all your food kind”, but only after you invite him in courtesy of some knitting needles and some yarn!
Freddie is a very quick knit, needing hardly any yarn.
He measures 10cm by 7cm (roughly) and so is a great way to use up left-over DK yarn from your stash.
He is knitted flat and then seamed using mattress stitch.
The only stitches you will need to know are:
- Knit (k);
- Purl (p);
- Knit Front and Back (Kfb);
- Knit two together (K2tog).
You will need to make an i-chord to make Freddie’s tail, but that is super simple too!
In addition to a small amount of yarn, you will need:
- a tapestry needle for sewing Freddie up,
- some toy stuffing and some 6mm safety eyes (or small black buttons, or even just some black yarn to sew him some eyes)
- a very small amount of pink or black yarn or embroidery thread for Freddie’s nose.
I hope that you enjoy making Freddie, if you find any problems with the pattern, I have tested it but these things happen so please let me know, I’m happy to help!
If you want to make Freddie, you can download the PDF here
How could you resist that face???
If you do make Freddie I’d love to see your creations, Freddie is on Ravelry so if you post your photos in the projects page I’ll check them out!
Have fun!
Jo

He is soooo cute! I’m sure if I ever start knitting, I’d make these as well 😉
thanks! you should start. I love doing both! 😂😂
I knitted in school when I was 10. Crochet as well back then. I was good at crochet, but knitting – oh boy. I kept dropping stitches. So I’m holding back on it for now 😉
the thing I like about knitting is if I “miss” a stitch, I don’t have to frog the whole row to correct, just knit back to it and make it right. the times I’ve frogged a whole LOAD of crochet rows because I messed up! 😣😂
Hmm, sounds interesting. I didn’t know that!
I’m queen fudger! 😂
He is super cute!
thanks! 😁
So cute, great job! <3

I see so many crochet stuffed toys – it’s nice to see such cute knitted ones!! <3
I love knitting stuffed toys. I’m currently working on a knitted rabbit that I’ll be releasing the pattern on soon! 😊
He is super cute!

Sooooo cute!
thanks! 😊
Hi, this is lovely ! I would like to know if you know how to knit this with 6mm needles & yarn? Would the pattern be the same?
Thanks,
Rosie Xx
J’ai besoin du patron pour le faire au tricot ou au crochet. Une amie m’aidera a comprendre et a traduire.
I hope it works for you! 👍
What a cute little mouse. I’ve just downloaded the PDF. Thank you for sharing. I am going to knit him when I have finished the shorts for my Doll I am doing.
enjoy! 😊
I’d really like to knit Frddie the fieldmouse, but can’t seem to download the insructions. Thanks, Lorna
how strange. do you need to create a Ravelry account? he is still listed and available!
Sorry – yes managed to download now. I didn’t see the “download here” link. Got there in the end! I’m looking forward to making him. Thank you so much, and for your prompt reply. Happy New Year and Happy Knitting. Lorna x
no problem! happy new year!
PS – I have a little Arts and Crafts shop in Yorkshire, England, and thought it would be nice to knit some “pocket money pocket pets”. I can’t crochet now as it makes my fingers sore. Sadly, the shop has been closed for months now, due to Covid, but I’m ever hopeful that I can open before too long and want to get some stuff ready for when it does. Thank you for your free pattern!! Lorna.
PPS – I’ll put a donation in the Lifeboat charity box. Lorna
